SUMMARY:Canadian Rare Disease Network RAREvolution Scholarship
DESCRIPTION:Applications are now open for the Canadian Rare Disease Network (CRDN) RAREvolution Scholarship\, a new initiative made possible through the support of Alexion Canada. This program was created to recognize and support young people ages 17–29 who are living with a diagnosed or suspected rare disease as they pursue post-secondary education.   \nThe scholarship exists to recognize resilience\, leadership\, and lived experience within the rare disease community. We know that navigating education while managing complex health realities can present unique challenges\, and this program was designed to help reduce financial barriers and celebrate the strength of our community’s youth.  \nWho is eligible:\nApplicants must be between the ages of 17 and 29 at the time of application and living with\, or affected by\, a rare disease. Students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and they must be pursuing post-secondary education in Canada.  \nWhat support is offered:\nSelected recipients will receive financial support up to $5000 to assist with tuition\, educational expenses\, or related costs\, along with recognition through the RAREvolution Scholarship Program.  \nHow and when to apply: \nApplications are open now and will close on June 12. This session will explain what lymphedema is\, why it can occur after cancer\, and the key risk factors to be aware of. Participants will also learn about current treatment approaches and how nutrition and lifestyle may support lymphatic health. Join registered dietitian and cancer survivor Jean LaMantia for an accessible\, evidence-informed overview designed to help cancer survivors better understand and manage their risk. \nAbout the presenter: Jean LaMantia is a registered dietitian\, cancer survivor\, and author of four books on the topics of lymphedema\, cancer\, and intermittent fasting. She is also the creator of daily and weekly journals designed to help individuals with lymphedema and lipedema track their diet and self-care practices and better understand how these factors influence their health. \nJean is the creator and facilitator of Lymphedema Nutrition School\, an online program that supports people living with lymphedema. She also teaches a continuing education course for dietitians and lymphedema therapists focused on advancing education and advocacy for the nutritional management of lymphedema. \nShe has presented at national and international conferences and is a strong advocate for a multidisciplinary approach to lymphedema management. Jean is the recipient of the Distinguished Practice Award from the Oncology Dietetics Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. \nJean lives in Toronto\, where she runs a virtual private practice providing one-to-one nutrition counselling.
